6 ingredients to look (and feel) amazing post-40

Most health and fitness advice was never designed for folks over 40.

It assumes you have endless time, sky-high energy, and a body that bounces back from anything.

But that’s not the reality anymore and trying to follow the same old advice usually leaves you sore, frustrated, and feeling like something’s “off.”

The truth is, your body is changing.
Your hormones are shifting.

And the strategies that used to work now fall flat, or worse, push you further from your goals.

But aging doesn’t have to mean decline.
Not if you approach it the right way.

In this week’s newsletter, I’m sharing 6 simple ingredients that make a real difference after 40.

Based on everything I’ve learned as a coach, as a movement teacher, and as someone in his 40s walking this path too.

These are the same habits I teach my clients, the same ones I do myself, and the same ones that help you…

👉 Move better
👉 Feel stronger
👉 And finally feel in sync with your body again

Let’s break it down 👇

And it’s not because I’m special.
It’s because I’ve built a foundation of simple habits that keep me strong, mobile, and thriving.

And today, I’m sharing them with you.

1. Daily Mobility + Flexibility

Move your body every day to stay loose, pain-free, and independent.

As we age, our fascia, the connective tissue that wraps around your muscles, starts to stiffen, especially with long hours of sitting.

That’s why your body starts to feel tight, achy, and less “free” in motion.

👉 What to do:

  • Begin your day with 10 minutes of stretching or mobility.
  • Prioritize your hips, spine, and shoulders — the first to tighten with age.
  • Bonus: mobility work in the morning can boost circulation and energy for the day ahead.

2. Functional Strength

Muscle isn’t just for looks, it’s the foundation for aging well.

After 30, we lose muscle every year, and faster after 50.

Without it, everyday movements like lifting, standing, or even walking become harder.

👉 What to do:

  • Do 2–3 strength sessions per week using dumbbells, bands, or bodyweight.
  • Focus on foundational moves: squats, pushups, rows, glute bridges.
  • Aim for form and frequency, not exhaustion.

3. Sustainable Cardio

Keep your heart strong without burning yourself out.

Cardio supports your brain, heart, hormones, and blood sugar.
But more isn’t better, smarter is.

👉 What to do:

  • Walk briskly for 30 minutes most days (or break it into 15-minute walks).
  • Try cardio you enjoy: dancing, swimming, light cycling.
  • Move after meals, even 10 minutes helps regulate blood sugar and digestion.

4. Nervous System + Recovery

If your body can’t relax, it can’t thrive.

Stress, screens, and always being “on” put your body in a fight-or-flight state.

Without recovery, this leads to poor sleep, stubborn weight, and chronic fatigue.

👉 What to do:

  • Unplug an hour before bed.
  • Do 5–10 minutes of breathwork, meditation, or gentle stretching nightly.
  • Try 200mg of magnesium glycinate before bed — it helps me sleep deeply and eliminated my nighttime cramps.

5. Supportive Nutrition

Eat in a way that fuels strength, energy, and hormone balance.

As we age, our fascia, the connective tissue that wraps around your muscles, starts to stiffen, especially with long hours of sitting.

That’s why your body starts to feel tight, achy, and less “free” in motion.

6. Environment + Support

Set up your surroundings to make the healthy choice the easy one.

You don’t need more willpower, you need a better setup.
When your environment supports your goals, consistency becomes automatic.

👉 What to do:

  • Keep your workout gear visible and ready.
  • Anchor habits to your day: stretch while coffee brews, walk after lunch.
  • Don’t go it alone, join a program, get a coach, or find a buddy who gets it.

Final Thought

You don’t need a 6-day gym split.
You don’t need to overhaul your life overnight.
You just need a plan that supports the season of life you’re in.

These six pillars work — not because they’re trendy, but because they address what actually changes in your body after 40.

Start with one habit.
Practice it consistently.
Then layer in the next.

This is how you rebuild your energy, your strength, and your freedom — one step at a time.

Have a wonderful day ✨
