Belly fat is stubborn and most people try to fight it the wrong way...with more cardio, more restriction, more frustration.
But if I had to lose 10 pounds of belly fat?
Here’s the 5 things I’d do and what the science says about why it works
Let’s say I woke up tomorrow, looked in the mirror, and thought…
“Alright, I’ve got about 10 extra pounds (5kg) of belly fat I’d like to lose.”
Not a full-blown transformation.
Not a 12-week shred.
Just 10 stubborn pounds that make my pants tight and my energy low.
Here’s what I wouldn’t do: I wouldn’t start running every morning.
And I definitely wouldn’t cut out all carbs, sugar, or joy from my life.
Because here’s the mistake most people do…
Most people go straight to cardio
They think:
“I need to lose fat so I should probably do more cardio.”
So they hop on the treadmill.
Or power walk for an hour.
Or kill themselves on the bike.
Now, movement is great!
I love it.
But if the goal is to lose belly fat and keep it off?
Cardio alone isn’t enough.
So here’s what I’d do instead
Strength training 2–3x/week
You don’t need to lift heavy weights or bulk up.
But you do need to challenge your muscles, whether that’s with dumbbells, resistance bands, or just your own body weight.
The goal?
Not just to “get toned.”
It’s to build and maintain muscle because that’s what keeps your metabolism alive.
After age 30, we naturally start losing muscle unless we train it, and less muscle = slower metabolism = more stubborn fat.
Just 10 weeks of strength training can help you gain up to 1.4 kg of lean muscle and boost your metabolism by 7% meaning you burn more calories even when you’re doing nothing.

Eat protein + veggies at every meal
This is my golden rule.
Protein fills you up, keeps your blood sugar stable, and helps you avoid cravings.
Veggies add fiber, volume, and nutrients without loading you up on calories.
A study found that higher protein diets helped people naturally eat 400+ fewer calories per day without trying, simply because they felt more satisfied and snacked less.
More protein = fewer random snacks later.
More veggies = better digestion and more energy.

Drink 2 liters of water every day
A lot of what feels like hunger?
It’s actually dehydration.
Drinking more water helps reduce mindless eating, supports your digestion, and keeps your energy steady.
Plus, every time you swap a soft drink or juice with water, you’re cutting out calories without even trying.

Walk every day
Walking might seem “too easy,” but it’s very underrated.
A 30-minute walk can lower cortisol, improve mood, and support steady blood sugar, all key for fat loss.
A brisk 20–30 minute walk, ideally in nature, can be a game-changer.
And it doesn’t feel like a chore.

Fix your sleep
You can do everything right…
But if your sleep sucks, your hormones will fight you at every turn.
Studies show that sleeping less than 6 hours a night:
- increase ghrelin (your hunger hormone)
- decrease leptin (your fullness hormone)
making you crave more and feel less satisfied.
Less sleep = more hunger, more cravings, and more belly fat storage.
I’d aim for 7–9 hours of good, solid sleep.
Go to bed at the same time.
Ditch the screens before bed.
Keep your room cool and dark.

It’s the combo that works
Doing just cardio is like trying to solve a puzzle with one piece.
These 5 habits work together.
They support each other.
And they build real momentum.
So if you’re feeling stuck, tired, or frustrated with the belly fat that won’t budge… try this:
Pick one habit from the list and start this week.
Just move one step forward.
Then another.
That’s how the results come. and stay.
Have a wonderful day
