What I Do When I Don’t Feel Like Exercising

Getting in shape is hard.
Staying in shape? That’s a whole new challenge—especially when life is pulling you in a million directions.

Maybe you’ve felt this too.

You start something new, like yoga, walking, or strength training, and you’re full of energy and excitement.

But then...
the motivation fades.

And when it does, sticking to your new routine feels almost impossible.

You want to keep going, but the thing that was supposed to make you feel better—whether it’s yoga, eating healthier, or exercising—starts to feel like just another chore.

Here’s what I’ve learned:
motivation is never enough to keep you going.

Over time, I’ve discovered simple, practical life hacks that keep me moving forward—even when I don’t feel like it.

The key is to make it easy to win.
Let me show you how.

1. Prep Your Wins in Advance

If you’re trying to eat healthier, don’t rely on willpower in the moment.

Plan ahead.
Dedicate one day a week to preparing healthy meals or snacks.

Cut up fresh veggies, portion out nuts, or cook a big batch of something nourishing.

Store them in grab-and-go containers so that when hunger strikes, you’re not reaching for chips or cookies—you’re reaching for food that makes you feel good.

When your environment supports your goals, staying on track becomes effortless.

2. Focus on the First Step

When it comes to exercising, getting started is often the hardest part.

That’s why it helps to focus on the smallest possible step: putting on your workout clothes and stepping out the door 👟

Don’t overthink it.
You don’t need a perfect plan or a full hour of exercise.
The goal is to make it so simple you can’t talk yourself out of it.

Once you’re dressed and moving—even if it’s just for a 10-minute walk or a few bodyweight exercises at home—momentum takes over.

3. Show Up, No Matter What

When you’re starting a yoga routine, consistency matters more than perfection.

Commit to showing up on your mat at the same time every day, even if it’s just for 5 minutes.

Those 5 minutes aren’t about the workout.
They’re about reinforcing the habit.

Over time, those 5 minutes often grow into longer, more intentional sessions.

The Secret to Sticking with It

Motivation will always come and go.

But when you make it easy to win, you don’t need to rely on motivation to keep going.

Focus on small, manageable actions:

  • Prep healthy meals so good choices are always within reach.
  • Make exercise as simple as putting on your shoes.
  • Start with just 5 minutes of yoga on your mat.
  • Tiny steps create momentum and momentum keeps you moving forward—even when motivation is nowhere to be found.

You don’t have to do it perfectly.
You just have to keep showing up, one small step at a time.

So, what’s your next small step?

Have a wonderful day ✨
