Aging speeds up when this process stops. Here’s how to restart it:

Aging speeds up when Autophagy stops. Here’s how to restart it:

Every cell in your body works all day.
And just like your kitchen after cooking… it makes trash.

Little bits of waste.
Broken pieces.
Old parts that don’t work anymore.

When we’re young, the body cleans it all up quickly.
But as we get older… the trash starts piling up.

When this cellular trash builds up for years, it creates the perfect conditions for bigger problems:

  • chronic inflammation

  • memory issues

  • insulin resistance

  • heart trouble

  • and even higher risk of diseases like dementia and cancer

Not because we’re “getting old”…
but because the cleaning crew isn’t doing its job.

Your body does have a built-in janitor mode, a repair process called Autophagy.

But in most adults never turn it on…

Why the cleaning stops?

The biggest thing that shuts down this cleaning mode is insulin being high too often.

And insulin gets high from everyday habits like:

  • Eating all day
  • Snacking between meals
  • Late-night eating
  • High carbs/sugar meals
  • Grabbing “a little something” every time you feel bored

When insulin is high, the body says:
Cool, we’ve got food, let’s store it.”

And storing mode blocks cleaning mode.
So the trash just… sits there.

How to turn Autophagy back on:

Here’s how to turn on your body’s cleaning mode without guessing or fluff:

1. Create Space Between Meals

Why: Your cleaning crew ONLY comes out when you’re not eating.
If you’re always snacking… the crew never shows up.

How to do it:

  • Eat 2 solid meals
  • No grazing
  • Leave 4 hours between meals

This one habit already helps insulin settle and lets “repair mode” wake back up.

2. Stop Eating 3 Hours Before Bed

Why: Nighttime is your body’s favorite cleaning time.
Late-night snacks shut the system down.

How to do it:
Finish your last meal earlier, so your body goes to sleep in repair mode instead of digestion mode.

3. Keep Meals Simple: Protein + Veggies

Why: These meals don’t spike insulin as much as sugary or carb-heavy meals.
Lower insulin = better conditions for autophagy.

How to do it:

  • Fill half your plate with veggies
  • The other half with protein
  • Healthy fats to satiety
  • Carbs as a side, not the base (if at all)

If your goal is autophagy, carbs are optional, not essential.

4. Set a Gentle Fast Window (16 Hours)

Why: When you give your body a little break, it turns on repair mode naturally.

How to do it:

  • Dinner at 6 pm
  • Breakfast at 10 am

That’s already 16 hours. Perfect.

5. Optional Boosters (not magic, just support)

Use these after the basics, not instead of them.

Spermidine supplement:
Shown in studies to support autophagy and cell cleanup. Great as a supplement if you want an extra nudge.

Green tea / matcha:
Natural compounds in it can encourage autophagy.

Cold exposure:
Cold showers or a dip in cold water create a stress response that may help autophagy.

Sauna / heat:
My favorite! Shown to supports cellular clean-up.

🪄Final Words...

Most people never turn autophagy on for one simple reason:
They never give their body a break.

Always eating.
Always snacking.
Always stressed.
Always tired.

If you want to age better, feel better, and avoid the problems that sneak up on us after 40… this is where you start.

None of this is extreme.
It’s simply how your body is meant to work.

Have a wonderful day ✨
