If you look 5 months pregnant after eating, it’s because of these 5 poor food combinations…
When I lived in Thailand, there was this salad place right next to our apartment.
Every day for lunch, my wife and I would go there and order these big, colorful salad wraps packed with every raw veggie you could imagine.
It was all fresh, clean, and “healthy.”

But every time after lunch I felt bloated and heavy.
I couldn’t figure it out, I was eating healthy after all!
My wife could digest it fine, but my body just couldn’t handle it.
Turns out, the combination of raw vegetables plus a rich, fatty dressing was a disaster for my digestion.
Later, during my nutrition coaching studies, I finally learned the science behind it: how different foods digest at different speeds and can slow the entire process down.
That’s when it clicked for me:
Sometimes, it’s not what you eat… it’s how you eat it.
What’s Really Happening in Your Stomach
When certain foods are mixed together, they digest at different speeds.
And when one part of your meal moves slower than the rest, it can trap gas, delay digestion, and make you feel heavy and uncomfortable.
Once you know which combinations trigger it, and how to tweak them, your digestion can feel completely different.
Here are a few common combos that cause trouble, and what to do instead 👇
🍕 Carbs + High Fat
- Example: pasta or pizza loaded with cheese, creamy sauces, or fried toppings
- Why: carbs digest quickly, fats digest slowly, so the meal “sits” longer in the stomach, creating gas and heaviness
- Fix: Go for tomato-based sauces instead of creamy ones, use less cheese, or balance your plate with a side of cooked veggies instead of more carbs
🍔 High Protein + High Fat
- Example: meals like cheeseburgers, steak with creamy sauces, or bacon & eggs fried in butter
- Why: protein and fat both require strong stomach acid and time to break down. As a result digestion slows and bloating follow
- Fix: skip the heavy sauces and excess oils. Pair your protein with cooked veggies or a light starch like rice or potatoes instead
🍰 Sugar After a Heavy Meal
- Example: having dessert right after a meal
- Why: sugar ferments on top of slow-digesting food → gas and discomfort
- Fix: If you love dessert, keep your main meal lighter and go for simple desert like a sorbet, fruit-based desserts or few bites of dark chocolate. Avoid heavy, creamy sweets right after large meals.
🥗 Raw Veggies + Fatty Dressings
- Example: big raw salad with nuts, avocado, and olive oil
- Why: raw fiber + high fat can be tough on a sensitive gut, especially when digestion is already sluggish
- Fix: steam or lightly cook your veggies, and go easy on the high-fat toppings. Your body will absorb nutrients better and feel much lighter after
🥛 Dairy + Starch Combo
- Example: creamy milk-based sauces on pasta or mashed potatoes
- Why: dairy can slow digestion and cause fermentation when combined with starchy carbs
- Fix: choose one or the other, either go for a lighter sauce with your carbs, or enjoy dairy separately in smaller portions
Small tweaks like these can mean the difference between feeling bloated and heavy…or light and comfortable 🙂
Have a wonderful day ✨
