Have you ever stood in front of the mirror in the morning,
looked at your yummy,
and just felt… confused?
You’re trying.
You’re choosing the salad,
the fruit,
the "healthy" options...
and yet,
the jeans feel to thigh,
and you’re stuck with that constant feeling of bloating and heaviness.
I hear this all the time from women in their 40s and 50s.
The truth is, most people have daily habits that seem 'innocent,' but are actually preventing their tummy from shrinking.
Here are the 3 biggest mistakes I see that stall weight loss, especially around the belly (and what my clients do instead):
1. The "Morning Carb" Trap

Many people start their day with fruit, a slice of toast, or cereal.
It feels light and healthy, right?
The problem:
During perimenopause and menopause, your insulin sensitivity changes.=
Carbs first thing in the morning spike your blood sugar.
When it crashes an hour-two later, your body goes into "stress mode," triggering hunger and sugar cravings that will haunt you until the evening.
What to do instead?
Switch to a breakfast based on protein and greens.
This keeps your blood sugar stable, balances your hormones, and creates real fullness that lasts for hours.
2. "Saving" on Protein

The biggest mistake is thinking protein is only for "bodybuilders."
At 40+, your body needs protein to keep your metabolism active.
When you don't eat enough of it, your brain translates that deficiency as "hunger"and suddenly, you’re hunting for carbs and sweets every two hours.
What to do instead?
Aim for 1.5 to 2 grams of protein per kilogram of body weight.
When you get enough protein in every meal, you’ll be amazed at how those "uncontrollable" snack cravings simply disappear.
3. Too Much Sitting (puts your metabolism to sleep)

I know, you’re incredibly busy.
But if you spend most of your day in a chair in front of a computer, your body enters "energy-saving mode."
In this state, even if you eat very little, your body won't burn that energy efficiently, and every little crumb you eat feels like it goes straight to your belly.
What to do instead?
Increase your NEAT (Non-Exercise Activity Thermogenesis).
It means taking the stairs, standing while you’re on the phone, or taking a 10-minute walk after you eat.
These small "bursts" of movement wake up your metabolism and tell your body to burn fat even while you’re resting.
Bottom line:
With age the body and hormmons change.
The rules of the game changed, and you’re still playing by the rules of your 20s.
Once you stop fighting your biology and start working with it, the weight drops, the bloating vanishes, and you get back in the driver's seat.
No more fighting,
no more hunger,
and zero guilt.
Have a wonderful day
