5 Simple steps to get your flexibility back (#2 is crucial)

Feel like your body’s getting stiffer every year?
In this issue, I’ll show you 5 simple steps to get your flexibility back — safely, gently, and in just a few minutes a day.

Does this sound familiar?

You bend down to tie your shoes… and feel your hamstrings pull.
You reach for something in the back seat… and your spine protests.
You wake up feeling like the Tin Man — stiff, achy, and tight in all the usual spots.

Most people blame age...
But that’s not really the problem.

You’re not stiff because you’re getting older.
You’re stiff because your body hasn’t been moved the right way in years or maybe even decades.

Fortunately, flexibility isn’t something you’re either born with or not...

It’s a skill.
One that can be trained, rebuilt, and maintained at any age.

Today, I’ll walk you through the 5 steps of the Body Freedom Framework.

The exact method I used to improve my own flexibility and help hundreds of clients release stiffness, ease back and hip pain, and finally feel free in their body again.

✅ Step 1: Hold your stretches (don’t just bounce or breeze through them)

If you rush your stretches, your body won’t change.

It might feel like you’re doing something… but you’re only stretching the outer layer.

To release deep tension and restore flexibility, your muscles and fascia — the web of connective tissue wrapped around them — need time to let go.

What to do:

  • Hold each stretch for at least 60 seconds (2-3 minutes is even better).
  • Relax your body and let gravity do the wok for you.
  • Aim for the “edge” of the stretch, not pain, just steady sensation.

✅ Step 2: Add slow, deep breathing

Your nervous system controls how relaxed (or tense) your muscles stay.

If it thinks you’re under stress, it won’t let go, no matter how long you stretch.

What to do?
Try this breathing pattern:
inhale for 4 seconds, exhale for 8.

This tells your body it’s safe to relax.

The result?
Deeper stretches and less resistance.

✅ Step 3: Stretch daily

Flexibility doesn’t fade because of age.
It fades from disuse.
But that also means it can come back with gentle, regular movement.

What to do?
Don’t wait for motivation.
Just build the habit.
Consistency beats intensity.

✅ Step 4: Keep your sessions short and sustainable

One of the biggest reasons people give up on stretching?
They make it too long. Too complicated. Too much.

I used to think the same—
That I needed 90 minutes of yoga to feel any real difference.

But…
You don’t need an epic routine.
You need one you can actually do on a regular basis.

What to do:

  • Start with just 15–20 minutes.

  • Pick 3–5 stretches that feel good in your body.

  • You can build from there.

✅ Step 5: Stretch your whole body, not just the “tight” parts

If your hips or hamstrings always feel tight, they might not be the actual problem.

They’re just the place you feel it most.

The real issue often lies in your fascia — the web-like tissue that wraps around your muscles and connects everything from head to toe.

Think of fascia like a bedsheet that runs through your whole body.
Pull one corner, and the tension travels elsewhere.

So tight hips? They might start with stiff shoulders or a hunched back from sitting too much.

What to do:
Instead of only targeting “tight” areas, stretch your whole body:
✅ Open your chest and shoulders
✅ Mobilize your spine
✅ Loosen your side body, not just your legs

Because when you free up the whole system —
Your hips, back, and everything else finally get to breathe.

You don’t need to be flexible to start.
But you do need to start to become flexible.

Remember, you’re not “too old” or “too stiff”…
your body just needs the right kind of attention.

So today, choose one stretch.
Hold it.
Breathe through it.
And smile 🙂

You’ve got this.

Have a wonderful day ✨
